After many kilometers in our roadtrip with the Porsche 911 and 912 Register of the last article, I would like to dedicate a special post to the Porsche Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition, kindly granted by the Penske Automotive Group Italy’s Porsche Bologna Center.
Just a few days ago, the new Porsche Cayenne has been presented and we have already explored the GTS version in detail too. Nevertheless, I would like to talk about my experience with this Diesel version, more peaceful, more rational. We have already driven the Porsche Cayenne, we did it with one of the most extreme versions, a really full options GTS that gave us a lot of fun. So the question is: how is to drive a version that costs really less than the GTS and instead of having a powerful biturbo petrol engine, has a 3.0 Turbodiesel?
To answer this question, I am at the Bonsi farmhouse in Reggello. In the parks of the beautiful villa, venues of events and ceremonies, where our protagonist finally rests his mechanical organs after the great effort of the Florence – Campobasso and return route. If in the review of the GTS version we were amazed about how a SUV could have real sports car ambitions, with this Porsche Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition I was pleasantly impressed by the fact that Cayenne’s soul is always there, well present.
Let’s go for degrees. Porsche Cayenne Platinum Edition is distinguished by the basic version of Porsche Cayenne Diesel for the presence of accessories such as the Porsche logo on the headrest, the 20 ‘RS Spyder Design rims, the dedicated sublubs, Porsche Communication Management with BOSE system, 8-way electric adjustment seats, expanded wheel arches, darkened rear windows and other options that contribute to a more sporty and luxurious look.
Even black color adds a sense of sportiness. Everything seems more rational, more “human” than the exaggerated GTS version. It is clear that these two versions respond to the needs of two different customers. In this case, the Porsche Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition is designed for customers who want comfort, safety, silence, luxury without excess and much to the substance. And the substance of Porsche Cayenne is all there, trust it.
On board I am pleased to find the comfortable Infotainment Porsche, with the BOSE audio system matched, which is really a must for this car. The passenger compartment materials are also of the highest quality this time, even though some leather coverings are missing. Turning the key to ignite the engine, there is no longer the rumble of the biturbo petrol engine, but a silent turbodiesel. In the long runs you will appreciate the quiet travel in this luxurious cabin.
While driving remains the great feeling of security. The so high ground floor gives a sense of street domination. The chassis, engine and transmission work to make the Porsche Cayenne easy to ride on any occasion, whether relaxed or sporty, also thanks to the Porsche Active Suspension Management (without ground level adjustment). Traveling so many miles with it I could better reflect on what is indispensable on Porsche Cayenne and what not, what can really be missing from the customer who is heading to this version.
The answer is that it really not lacks much! It comes with everything you need, maybe I would just add that touch of the Full Led headlights and the Porsche Active Suspension Management with height adjustment from the ground. Driving experience, or better traveling in this case, was really enjoyable. If you have difficulty with the maneuvers, given the size of the car, maybe the 360 ° camera could do it for you. After traveling into the Casentino with Cayenne GTS and this wonderful experience in Southern Italy with the Cayenne Diesel Platinum Edition the impressions on this car remain unchanged, it remains one of my best choices to deal with many miles in great comfort and luxury.
